CLAT 2013 paper analysis – was it easy or tough? Good or bad?

CLAT ExamCommon Law Admission Test (CLAT) is one of the most important law entrance examinations in India, which helps law aspirants get into the prominent National Law Universities in the country. CLAT 2013 was conducted yesterday. It is taken after the 12th grade, for admission into the Bachelors degree of Law, and many students across the country write this highly competitive examination every year.

A student who is expecting to score around 170 marks out of 200 found English, GK and Legal Reasoning sections to be very easy. Legal reasoning was easy but a little lengthy, this cut out some time for the Maths section. As there was negative marking this year, students avoided doing any guess work. Having attempted 150+ questions that you were sure of was better than attempting 190+ out of which you are not sure of 10.

Section wise speaking, English and Reading and Comprehension were easy. The latter, according to most students was basic 9th standard. Legal Reasoning was moderately easy, but lengthy. Legal section had all 50 reasoning questions, difficulty varying from easy to little tricky. There were no Legal GK questions. In AILET students had found this section to be tougher. The GK section that had created quite a stir last time (PIL was filed, students felt question were out of syllabus – Read Tanaya Thakur, aspiring Law student challenges CLAT : An Interview) thankfully gave a breather to candidates this year. Maths was actually okay, but some students found it a little more difficult than other sections.

Those students who had attempted Maths section in the end felt it was a bad choice because they ran out of time. One student said that as he had to spend so much time on Legal Reasoning that he could only attempt 140 questions and a large part of Maths was left out.

Overall speaking, CLAT 2013 paper was on the easier side, without any surprises, but a little lengthy.
