After submitting an explosive report on 2G spectrum last year, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) drafted a report titled ‘Performance Audit of Coal Block Allocations‘ which says that the government has lost Rs. 10.67 lakh crore by giving 155 coal blocks to commercial entities without any auction between 2004 and 2009. It is quite surprising to know that our PM, who is popular as the clean, corruption-free personality, is involved in such a derogatory scam.
So, Team Anna has labelled the Prime Minister corrupt. Also, they have launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh over various charges of corruption, so much as the PM has been accused of watching over the coal scam.
According to the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), mining rights for coal blocks had been allocated without auctioning them and this had led to massive profits for some chosen private firms. Team Anna has alleged that the advice to auction coal blocks was rejected, which led to the huge loss. Team Anna held PM with 14 cabinet ministers responsible on MASSIVE corruption charges, but the congress said all the charges are merely “Dubious”.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hit out at Team Anna saying he is ready to give up his public life if the charges are proved true. He claimed his long public career as Finance Minister, as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and as Prime Minister as an open book.
Team Anna wants an investigation on the PM coal involvement. They said if PM is not corrupt, he should not have any problem in an investigation process. They questioned the role of Manmohan Singh in the coal scam which recently came to light. The Prime Minister was in charge of the coal portfolio from November 2006 to May 2009.
The question that came up is that if the PM is corrupt then who will take authority of any type of corruption in India? PM is known to be a dominant official personality especially in a democratic country like India. But if he is involved in a 10.67 lakh crore scam , this scam will be known as Mother of all scams in India.
So what’s next, if these charges are true, the Indian public needs an explanation, they need an act from the side of government, for the accomplishment of end of scams in India. Well, all we can do is to wait for further reports.
