The noise of flowing water was making me frightened. It was striking hard on the floor. My legs could easily sense the changing mood of water, as they were immersed in it. With every blow, it was rising. The clouds were also preparing themselves. The monsoon had already arrived. It was abominable silence. Not a single living entity was to be seen. It was already 1:30a.m and after a hectic week of work at BHEL, I was sitting at Govind Ghat. I had wanted to come to river ever since, I came here in Haridwar and someone told me this is the best way to experience solitude and connect with inner soul.
As I closed my eyes to control my mind, I heard noise of some-one’s feet. I turned back and saw a girl, crying and approaching the ghat. She was wearing night suit, and from what I could gather, she must have been in her early twenties-slender but tall, fair, large eyes, no doubt young and attractive.
For a while she looked undecided, but on seeing me she turned back the way she had come and lost into the dark. I quickly ignored her, as if I am blind and deaf by her presence.
Once again I tried to connect with my conscience, but all in vain because even though, my eyes were closed, but my mind was looking out for her. Who was she? Why she was crying? Why she came here? Why she was alone? Should I go and ask for any help?
