New Age Guru-Shishya Relationship
Rajasthan University (RU) professor has been arrested for allegedly demanding sexual favors from his student. The victim has alleged that her research guide Dr R K Singhal of the Physics department was harassing her for months. The professor asked the girl to have sexual relations with him if she wanted to complete her PhD.

To the world of “new age guru-shishya relationship”. Everything and almost everyone changes with time, then why not the relationship between the two.
A guru is one who is supposed to: enlighten his disciple, make us teach good things guide us when we are in problem and helps in finding right ways, act as a friend, prepare students for acquisition of knowledge and more importantly act as a good human being. But unfortunately the roles to be performed by a guru are diminishing, resultantly there is a sea-change between teacher and student relationship.
Now-a-days there is a close bond between the two with the students over-stepping the limits (& also sometime teachers). In this age of social networking sites, and also with the student teacher gap getting narrower, the guru-shishya relationship is no longer a revered one, but a more chilled out one, with mobile numbers being exchanged and teachers being “poked” on social networking sites. Girls wearing high heels and jeans in colleges are being made an easy target by them (ultimately sexual harassment) because they will be reluctant in lodging a complain because of campus politics and goons (which teachers know very-well). Teachers might genuinely wish to be friend with students but such incidences make us wonder whether girls should ever be talking to professors.
Relationship between students and teacher should be limited to students only. A teacher should always try to maintain the decorum and students should also do the same. Moreover teachers should have self-control on them. Teachers sometime become the role model. Not only students learn from a teacher but a teacher also shapes the future of students. What, a teacher, with no moral qualities will teach his students? Teachers are meant to set examples for whole of the society but these incidences would have a negative impact on society and it forces students to make a professional distance with teachers. Plus these incidences bring shame on our country, India, where relationship between a teacher and student is sacred, where scriptures say”teacher is the god”..!

the day the rtu leaks were published, there was a lot of hue and cry.. i saw that the teachers and so called lecturers there are hardly passouts themselves. how can they teach students. and moreover, why isnt some action taken even after that?

bczz the rtu didn’t want that a bad name should get associated with it..So it tried to settle the case somehow..by not giving all the details about the scandal.
later on, the teacher was arrested..
Like all other cases in India, a scandal remains highlighted for 2-3 days, rest what happen become mystery, same with it..

the website where they had put all the details was shut down after two or three days too i think.
its amusing that instead of taking action, the ones who raise their voices are told to shut up…
