Alternative uses of the Sansad Bhavan

Note – The author has no intention of hurting the sentiments behind the historical structure, the Indian Sansad Bhavan. She simply wants to bring to light the futile going ons in the parliament right now, where an all out war between the parties and netas is only leading to loss of common man.

In view of the recent regular disruptions of the Parliament sessions, we started actually contemplating what a waste of space the Sansad Bhavan is right now.

The Parliament House Estate comprises the Parliament House, Sansadiya Gyanpeeth (Parliament Library Building), Reception Office building, Parliament House Annexe and the extensive lawns around it with ponds and fountains. The building is undoubtedly a classic heritage piece.

But considering, lately our political leaders have only been using it for free lunch sessions, here are some better ways to use the structure

Turn it into a tourist spot

TouristsMost of our wonderful heritage buildings are in poor condition. This new addition will at least let tourists see a good, healthy structure. With all the lawns, central location, easy accessibility; it might just turn out to be our best tourist spot!

Shelter for the homeless

HomelessThe building is massive with a diameter of 560 feet and the estate covers around 60 acres. This much of space can be easily used to provide shelter for the needy in winters or rainy season (when maximum homeless people die ).

Tete-a-tete with your politicians

A king and his subjects

Well, left to themselves, these hot headed netas end up fighting eachother and do nothing constructive. Perhaps the house could be opened to public so that like in the times of Kings, they can go to openly share their grievances and seek solutions, darabar e aam style! And yes, the media can be forever present so that each person is dealt with properly.

Another shopping mall?

Hate to suggest this, but at least it will use the space!
