A big hurdle in COLLEGE LIFE

CGPA, SGPA, GPA…….these are the things which engineering colleges give you these days. (For school students) Like you get a percentage, CGPA and SGPA are similar things. They just work on comparative values instead of absolute values. Here in college, if you are the topper in any subject then your marks will act as if they are 100/100 even if you topped by scoring just 29….crazy…I know…but this is what this is..!!!

GPA is also a similar thing. It differs from CGPA from the fact that CGPA is on the scale of 10 and GPA is on the scale of 4.

Now after giving a crash course on college assessment, I come to the main point. When we all come to a college, we come fresh (we are actually called fresher), ready to make new friends, mingle with people, have relationships, blah blah blah…..!!!!

But as comes the first semester results, everyone gets a tag of CGPA. It’s like quota system, you have a high CGPA then you are superior, if you have a low CGPA you are nothing. It is seen that people and their behavior changes rapidly after that and in the 2nd semester itself change of groups and friend circles take place. It is seen that most of the fights and controversies take place at this time only. People forget that getting a higher GPA doesn’t mean you are GOD. You are also in the same college. College is a place where everyone gets on the basis of his merit unlike school where you don’t need to prove yourself to get into! So once you have proved yourself, you don’t need to do it again.

A FACT: companies coming to your college doesn’t give you package according to your GPA. If a company comes, it will give the same package to all the students it selects. For eg, Infosys, when it comes, it first conducts orientation lectures in which it tells about what they are looking for and how much package are you gonna offer. So a person having CGPA of 6.5 and of 9 gets the same salary, same position in the company. Then why the heck do people take themselves to be superior. huh..!!! This issue exist and will keep existing….It’s just that you have to change your attitude towards GPA and live your college life happily without remembering anybody’s GPA.
