CAT may go global

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) authorities are planning to conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) not only in India but also across the globe from next year. While it is still uncertain that whether the students who appear for CAT, which is held abroad, would get admission to IIMs or would have to avail for seats in the B-schools of their own countries.
In order to discuss the underlined issue, a meeting was held in the city on Tuesday where IIM directors took into account the ways and procedures conducive to make CAT more relevant, than it presently is, to the market.

Debashis Chatterjee, director, IIM-Kozhikode, said that the authorities were in the preliminary stage of thinking. He also added that it if something could shape the adept decisions, it was their collective thinking.

IIM authorities vehemently feel that CAT should be held on an international scale. There was a consensus that the CAT in its present format focuses only on quantitative ability and data interpretation, as well as verbal ability and logical reasoning of a candidate, but fails to address or test the managerial orientation of the student. It was added that CAT must also assess the very managerial skills.
