Delhi Belly is out! And, believe me it is going to redefine how Bollywood movies are made in the future. No, it is not a family movie. No, it is not for kids. But, it is definitely one that transcends the movies of the present day.
The plot is straightforward- Ignorant protagonist ends up in the middle of a mix-up involving diamonds; and thereafter, villains chase him and his friends for the rest of the movie. However, it’s not the plot that the movie is dependent upon for success. What makes it tick is the inherent slapstick humor and the sheer bluntness of its dialogue. The movie borders on the offensively blunt and the outrageously contemptuous, leaning towards the latter. It contains some of the most explicit scenes and gestures that Bollywood has to offer, much to the disgust of some viewers. And yet, it works. It works just fine.
With a run time of a mere ninety-six minutes, Delhi Belly has a vivid variety of actors, each of whom perform admirably in their respective roles. Imran Khan has definitely done his reputation a world of good with his role. The storyline is well knit, fast-paced and is testament to the fact that you don’t always need an extremely complex plot to draw in the audience – good cinematography and great comedy sequences are just enough. The music score is peppy and in sync with the youth of the country.
If you can sit through some scenes and dialogues, that you might otherwise find offensive and vulgar, in the end you will be pleasantly surprised; you will most likely have a smile on your face, when you exit the hall.
