This one, is fairly selfish. I’ve often written pieces as a dedication, to people who matter; many a times, even the people to whom I’ve made the dedication are clueless; but that’s more or less, how I like to function. Hence, this one’s a departure. This is me, writing solely for me, solely for the need that has developed, the need to appreciate the fact that I possess a really wonderful person in my life.
It’s weird I know, but equally true, that most of the times, we are not humble enough.
Humble enough to thank our father for the life style we’ve inherited, something we consider our “birth-right”…
Humble enough to thank our mother for the wonderful food she has been serving since the beginning of times…
Humble enough to thank the Lord for having bestowed upon us, whatever, He has in fact, already bestowed…
So, yes, these are confession times.
I’m on my knees
This is, perhaps in a way, a “Thank You” note, to you. You, who are perhaps the closest I have to a real friend. Somebody who knows all about me, my likes, dislikes, my crushes, my first love, my little secrets (even the murkier ones, perhaps
)
I enjoy fighting with you, more, than perhaps a cuppa’ tea; frankly, perhaps to get your attention, to talk to you or maybe, more so, because I love seeing you in that state!!
The earliest memories, would be of me throwing stuff at you, then of yours returning the favor! Pulling of hair, twisting of ankles, head-bashing would be common warfare
There would be a World War, then a Cold War and finally, a peace treaty
; all in a time span of merely a few hours!!
I remember how possessive and protective you‘ve been of me, threatening those boys of fatal consequences, if they as much as touched my hair!!
Fast forward, the throwing and pulling, reduced a bit; verbal encounters increased
, love grew too (rather exponentially
) We stood by each other in harsh times (me getting a bigger trophy, or was it the other way around
) Through darker times, we held each other, fought together, provided strength to the one in need!
We’ve both grown in stature now!
“Chota bhai hai! Tujhse kasie gift le sakti hu!”, is what you said this Rakhi, perhaps the only time, I decided to gift you something by my own!!
Love you baby!! More than you can imagine….!
P.S. This is your gift for this year’s Rakhi (Not taken into account the other worldly possessions
)
Bless you and your Sis kiddo
