El Clasico

The biggest game in the footballing calendar is here. It’s Clasico time, when two of arguably the best teams in the world at the moment collide in a match that will decide who gets the bragging rights in Spain. It’s of course ‘Hala Madrid’ vs ‘Visca el Barca’.

Ever since Spain clinched Euro 2008, Spanish la liga has been on a rise, boasting some of the world’s finest footballers in Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Mesut Ozil et al. And the day has finally come when they are measured against one another, man for man, player for player.

let’s discuss some tactics now, shall we? Barcelona are likely to deploy either a 3-4-3 or their traditional 4-3-3, while Madrid are expected to adopt a 4-3-3 or the slightly modified 4-2-3-1 in reply. To counter the attacking threat of Messi, Iniesta, Fabregas and Xavi, expect Mourinho to put another man in the midfield at expense of Ozil, most likely Diarra or Coentrao. While this will certainly seem a defensive tactic, Madrid cannot press up the pitch with Ozil and the three attackers for they would run out of gas easily. However, if Mourinho does in fact play with a playmaker, either Kaka or Ozil, Barca’s 3 man defense could become exposed for Busquets or Keita aren’t top-notch defensive midfielders. As for Barca, Messi and Fabregas have developed an almost telepathic connection lately, and Madrid’s Marcelo could be in for another rough night if either of them find space on his flank.

As much as this is a fight of the players, it is also time for Mourinho to prove why he is revered all over the world as one of the best coaches around, if not the best. For, this is the first time in the last 3 years that Madrid look even capable of challenging the extra-terrestrial Catalans! All we can hope for is a cracking match, that lives up to the hype and build-up! Catch it live tonight on Ten Action.

  5. well I hope this one turns out to good like them because over the years this fixture has been ruined by Divelona.Madrid still is better in this aspect.Last thing I want to see is busquets calling someone a monkey and crying.
And the quality can be related to the fact that both teams have rubbish defence imo.
    Still hope Madrid wins it.

  6. True that. Divelona, and Busquets clutching his face even when someone hits him in the shin! Disgraceful. I too am supporting Madrid.
