Facebook now has more than a billion active users online

One in every seven people in this planet is now an active user of Facebook.

The company that was born in a Harvard dormitory has grown quite a lot in 8 years. Over the years, we see the following statistics

1.13 Million Likes
140.4 Billion Friend Connections
219 Billion Photos are being shared
17 Billion Check Ins

Since the launch of music listening app in 2011, 62.6 million songs have been played 22 billion times. This amounts to 210,000 years of music!

1 Billion is big, pretty big…

If Facebook is considered as a demographical entity and declared as a nation, it will be third most populated in the world, competing fiercely with China (1.347 billion) and India (1.210 billion).

In the history of the world, there has been no medium that had such a user base in so short a time span. This includes radio, television, mobile phones. Undoubtedly FB has become the biggest medium today.

1 billion milestone was reached quite some time back, but today’s announcement pertains to one billion active users. This does not include fake profiles and bots.

The top five countries that contributed in the growth are – Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico and US.

Competition prevails

Google plus, which is younger than Facebook crossed 100 million active users recently. Twitter last released such stats in late March. At that time it had around 140 million + active users.
