The ghosts of past of a porn star

Not my original lines, they have been taken from an article on Slate. Very aptly this sentence shows how ironical it is that the same people who discuss over tea that “We are very advanced. We are the ones who look ahead”, are the same ones who can’t stand Sasha Grey reading to children.
For those who don’t know, Sasha Grey is a former porn star who is now in mainstream cinema. According to news reports she was called yesterday in an elementary school to read to first graders. The parents of the students are “horrified”. Reason : They think porn starness will rub off on the little minds. The school is now claiming no such incident ever happened (that Sasha Grey did not come to the school)

Question number 1: Do elementary kids care whether the lady who is reading to them was a porn star?
Question number 2: A porn star is an outcast?
Question number 3: How stupid can we get?

Agreed it is difficult to leave back one’s past and turn into a new leaf and on top of it make society accept you. But isn’t it a bit unfair?
Like Sasha very beautifully puts,

I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am

isn’t it time we look past an entertainer’s reel life and actually try to tell our knowledgeable selves that they are beyond what we see them on screen?
Maybe you will scoff it off as another article on “being open minded” et al. Do what you please , but try to think of it at least once. And yes, next time you watch porn, try to look beyond the acts on scene… maybe you will spot some homo sapiens and like you, they too have an identity….
