Have you found your ‘thing’?

What is that ‘one thing’ that you love doing the most? The ‘thing’ that you are most passionate about, the ‘thing’ that drives you crazy or the thing that you would do anything for?

Have you find yourself asking the same question? If yes, and you have no answer to it, then you are with are with me any many others who are still for their ‘spark’ in life.

Life is all about finding the ‘thing’ and living with it. Some of the lucky ones may have already found it and must be busy doing it, pursuing it, relishing it. Those who haven’t should get disheartened. We all have something in us, some hidden talent. Something in which, we would be one of the best, if not the best. Something that we are born to do. I believe that we are here in this world for a mission. Each one of us has been sent by God to complete a particular task. We all have a ‘thing’ to do in this life. It is upto us to find out what it is. Some of you may have found it. Those who haven’t, please keep on searching. I am sure you will find it someday.

For some time, I started to believe that ‘Writing’ was thing I was born to do. I have this innate desire in me to write about anything and everything. I love to give my opinions on stuff, write about my experiences and express my feelings. But 2 days back, when I actually sat down to write an article for the magazine, I couldn’t find a topic. I had 3-4 topics in mind but I couldn’t think of anything constructive. Then I accidently stumbled upon a video of “Steve Jobs” titled ‘How to live your life before you die!’. And it inspired me to write this article.

If writing would have been my thing well then this shouldn’t have happened. I should have come up with any topic and written. But I couldn’t. Now I am not sure whether ‘Writing’ is my thing or not. It could very well not be. I really don’t know. Like many others, I am still searching and am not going to rest until I find it!

It could be anything, any sport, any musical instrument, any dance form. You could have been sent to this world to be a famous Sportsperson, Musician, Dancer, Techie, Geek, Scientist, etc., anyone.

You have got to find what you love. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life. And the only way to be satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle. As it is with all matters of the heart, you will know when you will find it. And like any great relationship, it gets better and better as the years roll on.

Your time is limited. So don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other opinions drown out your inner voice. And most importantly have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become!

  5. Awesome, very well written.
I would like to further add that probably the journey, the struggle , the experiences that you have on your way to discover that one thing, one thing that inspires, motivates you, the one thing you feel I can do on for rest of my life, the one thing that makes you work 18 hours on stretch – the experience in discovering this one thing is probably worth it.

On way you learn about things you can do, things you cannot do, you learn new things about yourself and most importantly learn to respect people who have already discovered that one thing or have embarked upon this journey!
