IIT – one NOBEL PRIZE Please!!!

The biggest problem with India is at the college level. Before college , i.e class 12,I can bet that any child preparing for IIT /Medical can literally blow away the American and the Japanese and other counterparts. What is taught in class 11 and class 12 in physics is a basic mandatory course in MIT taught in the 1st year. But if we are so ahead in academics why can’t I remember a single IITian winning a Nobel or coming close to it. That is because we somehow lose the focus.

Students start concentrating on extra curricular like dance, music, video games and boozing ,smoking(sutta)….Even the system encourages time management and how to handle pressure effectively and to develop your personality with 6 sometimes 7 courses and extra currics,a student become an all rounder who is more apt at handling high level stress at a company and doing a white collar job in a body shopping company than doing research or inventing something ……Wheras its exactly opposite in USA where a student devotes his energy at academics in college.. We do all the hard work   and when the time comes to raise the bar (our college years),we tend to relax and thus get beaten in a game which was ours to win ….. A game that only Indians should have won……….

  2. We Indians are very hard working, but, do a majority of Indian students have a passion for a subject or do they just go with a degree that gives them the biggest “package”???

  5. @kavita : I never thought God would speak like this :D

and yes, @homer : dont you think your comment would just show how extremely frustrated you are … lets leave that for others to decide. And as far as being God is concerned… you certainly are nowhere near to even being better than average!

Apart from just being very good at slogging for 24 hours a day , how can you claim to be different?

The way we look at IIT is a place that should produce the finest engineers… you just end up doing an MBA like every other engineer or writing a book like Chetan Bhagat, which even an arts student can (and do it better!) How can you claim to be “better” buddy!

  6. Awesome article.. !! it needs more attention, the topic should be taken forward.. !!
I totally agree that this is the game that only Indians should have won…. Hers, we tend to enjoy in our college years & not to focus on academics, this is the time where we lag behind those foreign counterparts.
