First Impression

India is a vast country, making it quite obvious that it can’t have people living their lives in the same monotony. And the so called ”monotony” is fortunately or unfortunately somewhat orthodoxical i.e. if I get a chance to time travel and observe the livelihood of a family in, say the 16th century and then return back to the present, to see their off springs, their children, generation after generation! It will amaze me to see people still denied of the outer world developments, still trapped in the cocoon of the SIXTEENTH CENTURY. Who said that ghosts are only in stories? Come to India and see these 400 year olds still haunting the poor youngsters like me, who has to face illogical old rules….made by some bearded idiot.

On the other hand, if I do the same ‘time travel’ experiment with a so called ‘fancy’ country like America, there are not only candles getting replaced by tube lights, but also the skull cores are evolving. If I tell any of my elders about how developed and modern the people of Europe are, then the answer would be in a nostalgic old tone:-

” You chaps don’t know how developed our culture is, if they (Europeans) have modernity then we have a glorious history, always remember , India is a rich country in culture”

I don’t know who sculptured this word ‘culture’ in these old brains and how the history of ‘slavery’ is glorious. It is amusing to see people in metropolitan cities trying to avoid walking on paths which a black cat crossed!

So , what would you interpret while seeing a 12 year old walking on the road having a ipod , carrying a laptop, having styled hair? Also think of your answer in a case where if the same boy carries a book having neatly combed hair, what would you interpret then?

Please, don’t say that the former is a spoilt one, ……….is this the first impression?

“Simplicity, here in India lies in that poverty”

Think it over……it isn’t necessary to make your child look like champu to show his academic and social brilliance!

  1. i truly agree with the core idea(probably the last part) but you should have been more clear on ‘monotony’, ‘cocoon of the 16th century’…………you may call something as superstition but i call it faith(hahaha…) and what’s so wrong about it. Even our culture has been constantly changing (eg. the fashion of 1970′s is absolutely different from today’s even in the villages!)….what ‘champu’ you are talking about may not be related to our culture but the generation gap and may be true for Europe or America as well but not exactly in the same form.
