The past week was celebrated as Joy of Giving week all over the country as a part of JoyFest. The Urge volunteers organised a clothes donation campaign especially for the flood relief motive, keeping up with the spirit of the JoyFest. Prashant Agarwal from DSM, DTU coordinated the noble act with Goonj, an NGO as” Vastrasamman”. Number of student volunteers poured in and with full enthusiasm set up donation/ collection boxes at hostels and canteens. The word of love soon spread and things came pouring in.
Vaastra Saaman is a annual event being held from 11 years by Goonj in collaboration with ‘Joy of Giving Week’. The Brand ambassador for this campaign is Sachin Tendulkar who himself has contributed by adopting a complete school and paying the fees of each and every individual student.
The basic idea behind of Joy of Giving Week is that ‘there are many things which are not utilized by us but can provide lot of happiness to other people so why don’t we share some of our happiness with them also’. ‘Joy of Giving week’ became a instant hit in the college and these people were able to collect some 350 clothes, 50 shoes and many other items like utensils, stationary and toys. Faculty and students both came forward in huge number to donate the items during this week and especially honorable Vice Chancellor provided an extended help and donated items from his office and his home also.
