‘A game show, thirteen questions, four options each, one being the answer and a fortune to be won.’

India’s most loved quiz show is back and that too with a bang, the highest prize money to be won is Rs. 5crore. The legendary Amitabh Bacchan is the host to this edition unlike the previous season. The charm is back and so are the mind boggling questions.

The show started on 11^th October, 2010 also being Amitabh Bachhan’s 68^th birthday.

There are ten contestants every week who compete for fastest fingers first to grab the hot seat. This time there are 13 questions overall, the 13^th being a jackpot question that appears after the contestant on the Hot Seat reaches the second safe zone (padhav). Basically the contestants are given three lifeline’s audience poll, phone a friend and expert advice. Another lifeline appears on reaching the second safe zone, the double dip that allows the contestants to give two answers to one question. Also, celebrities also come to the show to promote their movies and to motivate the contestants. A timer has been fixed uptil the second safe zone.

This season has been aired on Sony TV rather than its regular channel Star Plus. This came as a surprise in the KBC series as the rivalry between these two channels now intensifies. It was a probable consequence of the disputes between Star Plus and Jaya Bachhan.

The 1^st episode actually proved the exceptional charm of Amitabh Bacchan as the contestant from Jheemar admitted himself that he hadn’t applied for the season that was not hosted by Amitabh Bachhan, which was pretty surprising yet acceptable.

Its is good to see that KBC is helping people from remote areas of India to fulfill their dreams. It also goes to show that there is a lot of talent hidden in every nook and corner of the country.

We are again in for a roller coaster ride as the contestant stumble upon simple questions and the tricky options provided.
