The office is an American comedy series which has been started on NBC by Ricky Gercais and Stephen Merchant on March 24, 2005. The idea was developed by Greg Daniels. The theme music composer is Jay Ferguson. Greg Daniels, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, Paul Lieberstein, Jennifer Celotta, B. J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, Brent Forrester and Dan Sterling were executive producers for the series. The production company whose finance was used for production of the show was Deedle- Dee Production, Shine- America and Universal Television. It listed 176 episodes in 8 seasons of run and still in run.
The program shows the day to day life of employees working in office in Scranton, Pennsylvania which is the branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The show’s filming is done with single-camera setup. The series features Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak and Ed Helms as the main characters of the show. Steve Carell’s role has been played by Michael Scott.
During the time of second episode for the show, writers actually visited offices to explore the life in office. The direction for pilot episode is the copy of British version. After an episode of The Apprentice was aired the serial gathered 11.2 million viewers in the U.S. which won the time show. But when the time slot was changed and moved to Tuesday night it lost around 5.9 million viewers. It got 102th rank in 2004-2005 U.S television series with 5.4 million viewers on an average.
With the start of the movie Carell received huge success from movie “The 40-Year-Old-Virgin” and it also got place in iTunes. Due to favourable success the programmes was the most watched ant it got title of “Must See on TV” with Thursday night from January 2006 and it continuously gained in ratings. In 2005-2006, it received 67th rank and 8.0 million viewers on an average with 10 out of 10 rating. And most of the people who loved to watch it were from 18-49 of age group. NBC ranked the show as highest rated scripted series which gathered 22.9 million viewers after the broadcast of Super Bowl XLII. But the recent episodes of eighth season “Tallahassee” is the lowest rated episode of the series up till now on NBC’ highest series which cost around $178.840 per 30 second commercial.
