Nehru Ambedkar cartoon controversy

Seems like there is a havoc in the parliament as the raging controversy has erupted over the 1949 cartoon of Nehru-Ambedkar, where Nehru ji is standing with a whip and Dr. Ambedkar is sitting on a snail showing the slow process of constitution formation in the NCERT book. HRD minister has said that the textbook will be withdrawn from circulation till the cartoon is removed. And from here the course of debate starts that should we support the ban imposed by the HRD minister??

It should be understood that the cartoon as it appears is not a malign attempt denigrate Dr. Ambedkar but to justify the concerned chapter “INDIAN CONSTITUTION: WHY AND HOW?” which examines the democratic goals , democratic debate throwing light on the procedural formation of the constitution. The cartoon depicts that the formation of constitution took 3 years, elements were there to create better understanding to the students along with the sense of humor. Now is this controversy showing that our political leader doesn’t posses sense of humor? Also now along with this issue the allegations are also rising against the other political cartoons in the textbook. Isn’t it the attack on academic freedom??

Today they are demanding to remove the book from circulation till the cartoon is removed, tomorrow all the cartoons will be removed from the textbooks and then we will see them disappearing from newspapers, magazines.

Youth has a good sense of humor and carries a positive thinking towards what they witness. Our leaders should understand that youth is well versed with politics, business, corruption, social attacks and the way our government work.  Changing or removing the cartoon doesn’t change the reality, if things have to be changed then it should be the way our honoured political leaders are working.

Withdrawing cartoons or the books will strengthen the fascist and orthodox in the society.

Whatever happened to Free Speech and Freedom of Expression???
