We are now at no. 14 and the list is getting more and more exciting. Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke is an amazing title by all accounts!
I sense that all my book reviews are getting very monotonous, I praise a book while telling you about the story and wrap it up by recommending the book to you. Fear not! This review will be no different! Although as we approach the top 10 my recommendations will get more and more fierce!
Arthur C. Clarke is one of the fathers of science fiction. This guy wrote magic. Him and a few others (most of them are on this list) recreated our worlds with such subtle changes and yet completely new directions! It is a novel experience to delve into these futuristic worlds, gaze into the authors mind and his vision for the future.
Now back to the book in question! Rendezvous with Rama is a story about an alien spaceship that enters the solar system and how a group of humans are sent to explore it’s depths. This book is hardcore science fiction. For more on the story now I will give the books description.
“Rama is a vast alien spacecraft which enters our Solar System. A perfect cylinder some fifty kilometres long, spinning rapidly, racing through space, Rama is a technological marvel, a mysterious and deeply enigmatic alien artifact. It is Mankind’s first visitor from the stars and must be investigated…”
So there you have it, an alien spaceship that steams into our solar system. Rendezvous with Rama deals beautifully with all the aspects of first time exploration. You can really feel your pulse throbbing as the explorers progress from one event to another. A new world to explore, it’s exciting every page. Never knowing what you will meet the next corner is truly fascinating. Then of course there is the skill of Arthur C. Clarke, he handles the whole situation very well, building up the tension, making sure the reader says hooked.
To say that I was pleased after reading this book is an understatement. It is special this book, I think this is the birthplace for many thriller movies but that is my opinion really since this was published way back in 1972! So if you do decide to read this book then I am sure you will NOT be disappointed! A MUST read!
