Rockstar

The film opens up in Prague, where the star “Jordan” (Ranbir Kapoor) in his awesome avatar with long hair and a stylish moustache, who is supposed to perform in a mammoth concert is being beaten up by policemen, somehow he escapes to reach the concert stadium and in full ROCKSTAR attitude enters on the stage, you expect him to scream now but you are swept away to years back when suddenly you see the cool Jordan’s, shaggy and nerdy past, A nerdy, and normal looking middle class “Stephanian” called JANARDHAN is a great guitarist and singer, but only some appreciate his talent. The stephen’s canteen waala tells him that great music can only come with a broken heart, so he starts finding love for himself by stalking the most beautiful girl in the college Heer (Narghis), eventually Heer and Janardhan becomes friend and helps her in accomplishing all her dirty wishes before she gets married, he also accompanies Heer to her home in Kashmir for her marriage, when he comes home, heartbroken due to Heer’s marriage, his family pushes him to business and later accuse him of stealing money, he is kicked out and eventually stays and sings for months in a Dargah, here he is noticed by a legendary Shehnai player who influence the biggest music company, he is taken to a tour of Europe, where he meets Heer, but this time disturbed and ill, they begin all the fun again, but now Jordan has turned desperate, he forcefully kisses her and even breaks into her house, he is arrested and brought back to India. His negative image becomes his USP and is reflected in his music.

Years later he come to know that Heer is suffering from fatal diseases, he meets Heer and his attitude towards her eventually helps her to recover, but when Jordan leaves for his tour, Heer collapses, the doctors find out that she is pregnant and eventually falls into coma.

The film ends with Jordan performing “Nadaan Parindey”, as he feels Heer is with him in the stage, however not.

11.11.11…first day…first show and what a film…purely magical ! Personally, I haven’t seen a film like this, great performance by Ranbir Kapoor, you could feel every emotion that he beautifully portrays on screen, you give a normal love story to Imtiaz Ali and he twists it to magic beyond imagination.
Rockstar is a masterpiece when it comes to direction, the screenplay is a bit confusing at points and Narghis Fakhri is disappointing, but all of the flaws are completely overshadowed by a good story, Ranbir’s performance and looks, great music and great direction.

My verdict : 4/5 (It’s a must watch film)

  3. All good but why was he being beaten up by the police in the initial scene just moments before taking the stage in the movie’s opening scene?

  5. We were like waiting for this movie for the past 2 months or so…
what i personally got was nothing but disappointment !!
apart from rehman’s music, ranbir’s acting and the first half everything was a disaster…
when the film opens with jordan the rockstar taking a passionate entry in his concert i seriously thought that i m here for a treat…but the 2 nd half and some overlapping scenes were too bad to hav an experience of a lifetime!
    some unanswered questions…
    some loopholes in the script…
    no acting by nargis..
    loads of kissing scenes…
all of them took away the pleasure of rehman’s music and ranbir’s acting..

  6. @manoj makhija: narghis is definitely a disappointment, so was the confusing screenplay
    technically rockstar isnt so good
but a desperate lover cum musicians story is so beautifully portrayed by ranbir coupled with classic music by rehman makes it a must watch
what i beleive that the excessive kissing was a symbolization of obsessive love

    • wow what a love….
god knows where it started from…oh i know…by watching ‘jangli javani’ together…then excessive kissing is the perfect symbolization of obsessive love (that obsessive love literally gave me headache) !! :P

  7. @Abhishek – Oh is it? I wasn’t concentrating towards the end then. I don’t remember watching this part. Need to see the movie again. So he does it for a reason or just because he has so much hate within him that he felt like fucking around with the cops?

  8. @manoj: see i beleive that the director wanted it to be this way
but as i mentioned the film has major technical (screenplay) confusions
but the excessive kissing was definitely mad obsession and desperation
