Security Money in college is never refunded

Please give me back my money. It has been ten years!

Remember that small amount in your fees that is allocated as Security Money? Well, guess what, you are supposed to be refunded that after your college term is over. But did you get it back? How many chakkars did you have to make to the college administration before it was done?

Taking the specific case of MP, out of 63000 students who took admission in engineering colleges, 45000 were charged the security money ( those who belong to unreserved category). On an average, each student deposits around Rs 1500 at the time of admission. This brings the figure to a whopping 6 crore! And as per last year stats, almost 99% students are never refunded the amount.

The money is supposed to cover any damage you do to the college during your four years in college. And in case, your record is clean, you are supposed to be refunded the amount. Each student has the right to get it back. But interestingly, they have to almost beg the college to do so and take several trips to the college finance department or administration and meet every other official concerned and finally after they spend about ten times the amount on travel and waste their time, they just might get the money.

So, naturally, the amount is left to the glorious college fund.

One student said that she was so confident of not getting the money back, she has deliberately not returned a book to the library.

Very thoughtful, but futile.

Is your security amount secure?
