NAYADAUR (1957)
Director: B R Chopra
Cast : Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala

Storyline: Shankar lives in a remote village in rural India with his mother and sister, Manju, and drives a horse-carriage for a living. The main employer in the region is a kind-hearted businessman Maganlal. When Maganlal announces that he would like to undertake a religious pilgrimage, his son, Kundan, takes over and wants to cut back on labor and mechanize the business – thus leading to loss in jobs. He also introduces a bus thus taking away business from the horse-carriage drivers. This angers the community and they ask Kundan to reconsider, and he flats refuses – but agrees to withdraw the bus provided Shankar races it with his horse-carriage. Watch the action unfold as Shankar unites a divided village, and how he sets about to keep his faith in winning this race between man and machine

Why it worked: One of the first and ofcourse!, the finest films on Indian patriotism, NayaDaur is considered as a landmark in Indian Cinema. Brimming with energy and enthusiasm, the film is remembered from the powerful performance by Dilip Kumar. Dealing with a topic of rural India, the film touches our heart. The music is a high point as well. “Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawaano Ka , Albelo Ka MaastaNo ka , Iss Desh Ka Yaaro.. Hoye!!! “

UPKAR (1967)
Director: Manoj Kumar
Cast : Manoj Kumar, Asha Parekh, Prem Chopra

Storyline: Manoj Kumar played a village man, who sacrifices everything to get his brother educated. His brother (Prem Chopra) goes abroad and comes back a selfish man wanting his share of the property. But when war of 1965 between India and Pakistan break out Bharat is off to war while his selfish brother with help of his greedy uncle and some partners try to gain profit by selling drugs and start black marketeering in the market. in the end Bharat returns as a war hero defeating the demon designs of the enemy and his brother repents as he is caught by the police (by the brother in law of Bharat) after which he vows to be a good& hardworking brother hust like his indo-pak war veteran brother Bharat.

Why it worked: You know, Manoj Kumar was given a nickname of ‘ Bharat Kumar” by his fans. Reason: He dedicated all his life making movies on India and Indian Patriotism. The sincerity  with which he made films was worth watching. Upkar in the finest films in his huge collection of DeshBhakti movies. Salute!

BORDER (1997)
Director: J P Dutta
Cast :  Jackie Shroff, Sudesh Berry, Sunil Shetty, Sunny Deol and Akshay Khanna.

Storyline: The year is 1971 when the Pakistani Army is at war with the Indian Soldiers. The Indian battalion is posted in Longewala region in Punjab and are just 150 in number while the Pakistani Army consists of 2000 armed soldiers with tanks. This movie is a landmark in Hindi Cinema and watch how the drama unfolds and the Indian soldiers fight for the pride of their motherland

Why it worked: The war of 1971 had left a lot of wounds in the Indian minds. Lots of bloodshed, killing, gore. Border, being the first multi starrer ‘Deshbhakti’ film brought back the grueling memories. Commendable performances by all the actors, excellent direction and an overflowing patriotic feel, Border was a hit hard film for Indian Cinema. Hindustan ,meri jaan!

SWADES (2004)
Director: Ashutosh Gowariker
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi , Kishori Balal

Storyline: Set in modern day India, Swades is a film that tackles the issues that development throws up on a grass root level. It is to this India, which is colorful, heterogeneous and complex that Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh Khan), a bright young scientist working as a project manager in NASA, returns to on a quest to find his childhood nanny. The film uses the contrast between the highly developed world of NASA, which has been at the forefront of advances in space research, and this world back home in India, which is at the crossroads of development. Mohan’s simple quest becomes the journey that every one of us goes through in search of that metaphysical and elusive place called “home”.

Why it worked: After winning hearts of people by his acting in DDLJ, Darr, Dil To Pagal Hai , etc. Shah Rukh Khan ( SRK) wanted to shed his lover boy image. In came Ashutosh Gowariker. Fresh from his Oscar Nominated Lagaan, Gowariker revamped SRK”s image on the silever screen. It was a pleasant change. Swades was a powerful satire on our country , which is divided into the fast moving and developing “INDIA” and a backward and stagnant “Bharat”. Masterpiece is how I describe Swades  Shah Rukh Khan’s best performance till date .

RANG DE BASANTI (2006)
Director : Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
Cast: Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khanm R Madhavan

Storyline: The story is about a British documentary filmmaker who is determined to make a film on Indian freedom fighters based on diary entries by her grandfather, a former officer of the British Indian Army. Upon arriving in India, she asks a group of five young men to act in her film. They agree, but after they begin filming a friend of theirs is killed in a fighter aircraft crash, with government corruption appearing to be the root cause of the incident. This event radicalizes them from being carefree to passion-driven individuals who are determined to avenge his death.

Why it worked : Many people call Aamir khan , the “Manoj Kumar of 21st Century” . Many of his films like Lagaan, Sarfarosh, and even Mangal Pandey! have delivered a message of patriotism. But what brought  ‘DeshBhakti’ into the GenNext mind was Rang De Basanti (RDB). Comic, lively, bubbling with energy, RDB touched everyone’s heart and soul. Aamir Khan as ‘DJ’ told the meaning of Youth Power.

Jai Hind!
