Varchasva , the cultural festival of IIM Lucknow was successfully held from October 1 to 3 in the sprawling 185 acre campus. Even the tensions of Ayodhya verdict could not spoil the moods of students and teachers enthusiastically working for the event. The days were a colorful mixture of musical shows, sports, cultural events and fashion display!
The event was inaugurated by Professor Ajay Garg, Chairman of Students’ Affairs and Professor Ashwani Kumar, Chairman of the PGP program. They were all praises for the efforts put in by students and administration. It was pretty surprising for then that the verdict issue had not played a spoiler.
The events were broadly cultural and stage plays held during the first half and then the sports and music bang. All witnessed equal participation and saw happy faces enjoying completely.
The first day saw really good poetry by Dr Kumar Vishwas and Surendra Sharma. The Nukkad Natak (Street Plays) caught every one’s attention. Teams from 11 colleges (including LBS, IET and BIMTech) amazed the audience with their themes like “Education System: How easy it is to build IITs, IIMs these days without basic infrastructure” (presented by the winning team of IET) and Indian attitude of “Chalta hai” with special focus on Commonwealth Games (LBSIM Runner-up). Lalit Singh Pokaria and Sangam Bahugun, well known in the Lucknow theatre circle adjudicated the event. IET Lucknow bagged the top position.
The Kavi Sammelan was a show stopper literally! With icons like Kumar Viswas, Surendra Sharma and Ved Prakash; who kept the audience in laughing splits with their satire and comic lines and witty cross comments, it was enjoyed by one and all.
The students paid homage to the great Mahatma Gandhi on day 2, October 2nd. A student was even dressed up in his attire from head to toe.
At the same time, the JAM event presented a different color to the evening. More than 30 participants made the competition venue, the academic block seem like anything but an academic block (Where on Earth can you see head banging music being played in your acad section buddy! You gotta be envious of this lot when you read it!)
The sports events included cricket, tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, snooker, carom and chess (you know of any other sport kid?). A very high participation and the sporting spirit made the sports events a huge success. What seemed more important for the players was the participation and the healthy competition. It witnessed no ugly scenes and that made everyone happy! IMS Lucknow University, LBSIM, IIM Rohtak, IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow were all participating with full enthu. IIM Lucknow won hands down in cricket and football. In badminton too they emerged as winners but others put up a tough fight there.
And not to forget the choreography and fashion events! The former required students to chose props for the performances and these teams showed what efforts they had put into the preparations. The Fashion show was a great one with special theme of Indian attires and especially Indian marriages.
Music lovers were in the cloud number nine with the Wadali brothers treating them with Sufi music and Mrigya performing on “music and instruments of world harmony” and then the rock show.
And there was food! There was everything from mouth watering Biryani to Western pizza and what not. If you are a foodie, you would have gone crazy eating!
Also there were creative events like 30 seconds to fame, Wrestling, Kite Flying and Mono acting. It shows that the students really put their grey cells into thinking out of the box.
All their efforts and the great spirit of participation resulted into awesome 3 days for everyone who was a part of it all.
Way to go IIM Lucknow!
