Remember the good old days when ‘the F-Word’ had absolutely nothing to do with Facebook? Alas, now Facebook is the trending F-word. What a shame!
So, WTF is wrong with Facebook, you ask? To begin with, it’s a virtual reality for people to feel good about themselves. That, my dear friends, is not wrong, because every person deserves to feel good about themselves, to feel loved. But, virtual reality at the cost of reality is a terrible choice, one that is likely to have serious implications on your lifestyle and mentality.
Here, I present a case why you should quit Facebook right here, right now.
1) Our mind can store only so much information-
In a world where stress levels in people are so elevated that kids are hurling themselves over rooftops for not managing a 90 percent, while adults are busy beating people to death simply for putting a scratch on their car, how much more stress can our brains handle? Why should we give a f*** as to why someone is feeling sad/happy/ecstatic/heartbroken right now, especially if we have no idea how they got into our friend list in the first place? Let them express their feelings to their friends/family and they will help them out.
All this redundant information about random people, about their random thoughts adds to your stress, consciously or subconsciously.
2) The Big Brother is watching you-
You must have come across random people from your college/school, who send you friend requests and yet do not make even an eye contact when you see them. Their primary aim?
A. Do not be a ‘forever alone’ guy, increase your friend list
B. Keep watching, be on the lookout for what other people are doing, what they are thinking.
Then of course, you have those who use FB solely for surfing through the pictures of random chicks, ogling and dawdling, or stalking the profile of the ‘hot girl in the college’. Apart from such pervs, you also have those family members/the so-called good friends keeping a close watch on your activities. Add ‘started smoking’ or ‘in a complicated relationship’ to your activities and just see what happens next.
PS: Nowadays, relations get sour even when your girlfriend receives too many likes on her status updates from some guy. (Relationship? *Cynical snide*)
3) Spam the walls, share stories no one gives a shit about-
‘A million likes on this photo, and Facebook will donate a charity towards this disabled child’. Frankly, you would be better served doing something real about disabled people than calling for likes from your friends on a photo. If you want me to spell it out, here it is. NO, Facebook has no business donating charity for some likes on a picture.
Viruses, applications, farmville requests, and other similarly stupid requests make your stay on Facebook a very painful one.
4) Love-birds and their love-songs-
Oh, so you love each other? Then why the f*** are you telling us about it? Have you heard of this thing called cellphone? Call each other and express it, damn it. Stop trying to prove to the world that your love is eternal. Actually, it is as fake as the concept of Facebook itself.
5) The existence of better alternatives-
Generally, people have an argument that Facebook is the complete package. Right? Wrong!
Want to hear jokes? Head over to 9gag.com
Need to chat and catch up with friends? Move to Gtalk/Skype
Upload photos? Go to Picassa
Have to make contacts? LinkedIn is there.
Thinking of putting some witty one-liners for people to follow? Go Tweet dear Tweety.
Sports/National news? Follow news channels.
For everything else, there is Google.
The most natural of the human tendencies is to exploit, exploit and exploit, until there is nothing left to exploit, at which point you must move on to greener pastures. Although, Facebook has definitely been a savior in the past, and is not without its advantages, I fear it has run its course and is heading towards the end. Decide for yourself, don’t let yourself be manipulated, do not be a zombie.
You are sounding more like Eminem writing about love birds
well too good and really a great work..

Liked the third point…..if anybody wants to help charities he/she should do that in reality and not by liking and sharing in facebook.
All the points are well written to show thumbs down for facebook but there are also reasons for why one should use this social network which you haven’t highlighted at all…………the fact that you are using facebook Share & Like option below the article is contradicting!
Overall, a nice article….m sharing it!

well, the like button is not the author’s fault.
I guess the admins (we) belong to the category who like to exploit facebook for all the good it can do as a social media sharer.! Rest, we know it is pretty useless for making friends and other such purposes
