In the opening scene of Ben Affleck’s ‘THE TOWN’ , four men wearing scary masks forcefully enter a bank and rob it. This same thing happens many times in the film with only the place and their scary (but funny) masks changing everytime.

Familiar plot ? Yes!

So, is there something new? Yes! Yes!

Just like Bonnie and Cydle , THE TOWN makes a crime like bank robbery so much fun, but in a less humorous way!

Storyline: As he plans his next job, a longtime thief (Ben Affleck) tries to balance his feelings for a bank manager connected to one of his earlier heists, as well as the FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down.

The story of the film might sound predictable, but it sure is exciting. The acting, specially by the leading men is the strongest pillar of the THE TOWN.

Oscar nominated actor, Jeremy Renner , and actress Rebecca Hall are almost perfect for their roles. Ben Affleck who plays the role of Doug Macray, the theif who is caught between his professional and personal life  has done justice to both his Acting and Directing skills. Supporting actors, like the Special FBI Agent and Doug’s Father also have good roles.

THE TOWN might not keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the film. But it sure has some thrilling car chases, gun battles and explosions. The tension prevails throughout the film.

Technically the film is great.  The city of Charlestown ( Boston) is shot beautifully. Moreover the screenplay is solid too!

3 Things to watch out for:

  • Cat and Mouse car chases between the FBI and the thieves.
  • The track between Doug and his father in the prison. Intelligent!
  • The climax… All hell breaks loose!

Ratings:

  • Direction: 7/10
  • Editing: 7/10
  • Screenplay: 7/10
  • Cinematography: 7/10
  • Acting: 8/10

OVERALL RATING:  7.2/10 or 3.5  STARS

VERDICT: “THE TOWN” may not be the best film of 2010, but it surely deserves an Oscar nomination. Watch it, the BAD BOYS are back! ‘
